What is SCA+?

Master every consultation in 3 steps.

Most GP trainees know their stuff – it’s rarely their medical knowledge that causes problems in the SCA.

From what we’ve seen when watching GP trainees consult, the biggest problem is usually around structure. When the consultation is well-structured, time management and shared decision-making follow.

Trainees kept telling us they wished they could just see what a good, structured SCA consultation looked like.

We created SCA+ to tackle this head-on. We’ve built a simple three-step structure to keep your consultations clear and focused:
Story. Connect. Agree.

SCA+ brings Story, Connect, Agree to life in an online course of video consultations that show you how to communicate, connect, and succeed in your SCA.

It’s all about a dialogue

A few words from GP trainers, experienced and recently qualified GPs.

I would thoroughly recommend Dr Shevlin in helping prepare for the RCGP SCA examination.  She was an excellent GPST3 trainer for myself, whose passion for teaching shone through when revising for the SCA.

Dr Shevlin excelled in delivering case-based teaching, which emphasised the use of real GP experiences and supported the development of an adaptable consultation style which made passing the SCA first time straightforward.  Her SCA videos are highly professional, providing a valuable resource bank for GP trainees preparing not only for the SCA exam, but also for future practice.

Working with Dr. Shevlin was truly a game-changer during my GP ST3 training. I had been struggling with the RCA exam, but her guidance made all the difference. Dr. Shevlin’s unique teaching style, use of practical examples, and deep understanding of communication and consultation skills not only helped me prepare effectively for the exam but also transformed my everyday clinical practice.

After just a few practice sessions with her, I noticed a real improvement in my confidence, patient interactions, and the feedback I received from both patients and colleagues. I went on to pass my RCA exam with flying colours.

I highly recommend Dr. Shevlin and her website to all GP trainees seeking practical, effective techniques to master the SCA and build genuine confidence in their consultations.

I have enjoyed the privilege of supervising over 80 GP trainees.

Marie-Clare was a trainee with a genuine appetite for learning,

and is now sharing her experience. She had an uncanny knack of being able to distill down the consultation and rebuild

it in a seamless fashion to demonstrate all the components.

I am delighted she has sustained this enthusiasm and has now developed such a helpful programme. Great use of twin screens with subtitles to demonstrate the objectives in a real world context.
